Photos were made in the Florida scrub ecosystem on the Lake Wales Ridge at Archbold Biological Station and in Lake Placid- The City of Murals. The Station’s 200' deep silica sand and rolling hills are full of unique species. The endemic Florida Scrub Jays are common and are very acclimated to humans. Several times when I was photographing wildflowers, a jay landed on my camera bag to investigate its contents. Or even on my head.

In 1992, Lake Placid’s Mural Society commissioned murals depicting all aspects of the natural, cultural, and economic environments of Central Florida. There are currently over 47 murals in the city making for a couple of hours of self-touring.
